God can use our mistakes too!

Praise God He can even use our mistakes to accomplish His purposes. Last night when we received the urgent call about Kena in the wee hours of the morning, Cathy immediately emailed our church in Holland to request prayer. Since for them it was already morning they sent the request through their prayer chain. And when they started praying….. are you ready for this? SIL Aviation (Wycliffe in PNG) made a mistake and landed on our airstrip probably minutes later, instead of the one on the other side of our mountain ridge that they were supposed to land on. As a result Kena was medivaced to town on that plane and was sent straight to the hospital where she received the help she needed to stop the bleeding. She would not likely have survived the night had this “mistake” not occurred at that time.  This is yet another reminder that when we pray in faith, God does listen and act on those prayers.

The Prayer of Faith  (James 5:13-20 NIV)

“Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.”

Please pray for Kena

Kena Willis and kidsWe received a call at 2 a.m. that Kena has given birth to their fourth child yesterday. Afterwards however, she has been bleeding and the doctor in the tribe was unable to stop the bleeding. Then weather and time of day prevented the plane from evacuating her to the nearest hospital. Therefore we request urgent prayer for Kena, and also for Willis and the children.

Kena is the lead teacher for the Sunday school and ladies ministry in the tribe as well as heading up the literacy program, leading the local women’s group, providing medical help where needed, along with being a wife and mother of four beautiful children. She is also our adopted daughter, and her children are like grandchildren to us.

Willis is a shepherd to the flock of Wusuraambya believers. He is a prayer warrior, a Bible teacher, an evangelist, and a servant to many. He has been involved in every outreach since (and including) 2005. He has been beaten publicly and privately because of his faith and service to the Lord.

Satan has been unsuccessful at stopping Willis and Kena through other people. Is Kena’s uncontrolled bleeding just another way that Satan is trying to interfere with what God is doing in Wusuraambya? But Jesus said, “on this rock I will build my church and the gates of hades will not overcome it.” (Matthew 16:18) Pray that God will completely heal Kena, and by doing so, defeat Satan’s efforts in Wusuraambya.

Thank you for praying!

Your brother and sister in Christ,
Andrew & Cathy Goud

Urgent Prayer Needed for Sirah and Jesi

Dear Friends, many of you know that Sirah had her spleen surgically removed just before we left PNG last week.  At first the operation appeared to be successful but earlier this week she took a turn for the worse, losing  a fair amount of blood.  Then yesterday the doctor reported that she was doing better again and expected to be released next week, but today she started bleeding again.  We just received this prayer request from her doctor:  “Dear Friends, I regret to inform you that Sirah had another bleeding spell last night probably from her esophageal varices. We had to give her two more units of blood. Please have your folks pray for her and for wisdom and skill for me to know what to do. We may have to do more surgery for this. Also have your people pray here and at home against any spiritual warfare that may be involved. thanks, JIM”  Thank you all for praying for Sirah. We know that God is in control and he has not forgotten about Sirah or turned his back on her.

Another matter for prayer is Jesi’s hand. Just as we were leaving for Canada Jesi slipped with a knife and partially severed three fingers on his left hand, two of which still have no feeling or movement after being stitched by a local nurse. We depend heavily on both Jesi and Sirah for translation help, and they are also our very close friends. Pray for healing and pray that God will strengthen their faith in him even through these difficult circumstances.

Finally we ask for prayer for our daughter Heidi.  She has been diligently knocking on doors throughout the city trying desperately to find summer employment.  Pray for the right job to help pay for her education.

“ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,l whom have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NIV)
